What we keep, and what we don’t
What Athiwalls keeps, what the services it runs on collect, and how to take any of it back. No account, no email list, and no cookies of our own.
The short version
- You don’t need an account to use Athiwalls, and we never ask for your name or email.
- Athiwalls sets no cookies of its own. Your browser keeps your theme, your likes and a random visitor id in local storage, and you can remove them at any time.
- We count likes and downloads on our own small server, without storing IP addresses.
- We measure visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies.
- Ads served by Google AdSense use cookies. You can turn personalised ads off, and in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you’re asked first.
Who we are
Athiwalls (“we”, “us”) runs the wallpaper gallery at athiwalls.com. We decide what information the site handles and why, which makes us responsible for it. For anything in this policy, write to hello@athiwalls.com.
What we keep in your browser
A few small values live in your browser’s local storage. Local storage isn’t a cookie: it isn’t sent with every request, and nothing in it leaves your device unless the site sends it, as described below.
| Key | What it holds | Why |
|---|---|---|
athiwalls:theme | “dark” or “light” | Remembers the theme you picked. Without it, the site follows your device’s setting. |
athiwalls:likes | The ids of the wallpapers you liked, such as “001” | Keeps your hearts filled in from one visit to the next. |
athiwalls:likes-pending | Likes and unlikes not yet sent to the counter | So a like made offline, or with a weak connection, isn’t lost. Emptied once sent. |
athiwalls:visitor | A random visitor id, made in your browser | Lets the counter count your like once, however often it is sent. See the next section. |
These stay until you remove them. Clearing this site’s data in your browser settings removes all four; the panel in the next section removes your likes and visitor id properly, from the counter too.
The visitor id and the counter
Like and download counts are kept by a small service of ours, the counter API, which runs on Cloudflare Workers with a Cloudflare D1 database. The first time you open a wallpaper page, your browser makes a visitor id: a random string such as 3f2b9c1e-…, generated on your device. It isn’t based on your device, your IP address or anything about you, and we have no way to link it to a person.
- Reading counts. Wallpaper pages ask the counter for likes and downloads, sending the wallpapers’ ids and your visitor id so it can say which ones you’ve liked. Nothing from a read is stored.
- Liking. A like sends the wallpaper’s id and your visitor id. The database stores that pair with the time it was made, so one visitor’s like counts once. Unliking deletes the pair.
- Downloading. A download sends only the wallpaper’s id. Downloads are a single number per wallpaper and aren’t linked to any visitor.
- No IP addresses are stored. To stop anyone flooding the counter, Cloudflare’s rate limiter counts requests from each IP address (each /64 block for IPv6) over one minute. Those counters live briefly in Cloudflare’s systems; we never see or keep them.
- Error logs. Cloudflare keeps logs of requests to the counter for up to seven days so we can find faults. They can include the address requested, which contains your visitor id, and technical details such as your IP address, country and browser.

Hosting
The site and the counter are served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and the details your browser sends with each request, such as its type and language, to deliver pages and to protect the site from attacks. If its bot protection needs to check a request, Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie such as __cf_bm. Cloudflare handles this data under its own privacy policy.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see which pages people read and how quickly they load. It uses no cookies or local storage, doesn’t fingerprint your device, and doesn’t follow you to other sites. It records the page address, the site that sent you, your country, your browser and device type, and page load timings, and shows them to us only as totals.
We also use Google Search Console, which tells us how the site appears in Google Search. It works on Google’s side and puts nothing in your browser.
Advertising and Google AdSense
Athiwalls is paid for by sponsors and by ads served through Google AdSense. Where AdSense code runs on a page:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this site and to other sites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, and out of other vendors’ personalised ads at aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu. You’ll still see ads, just less tailored ones.
- In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, a consent message from a Google-certified consent platform asks you before any advertising cookies are set, and you can change your answer later.
Google explains what it collects and how in How Google uses information from sites that use its services and in its advertising policy. Sponsor cards are different: they are plain links we place ourselves, labelled “Sponsored”, with no tracking code of any kind.
Sharing and links to other sites
The share menu’s Pinterest and X options are plain links: nothing is sent to those services until you open one, and from then on their own privacy policies apply. Copy link writes to your clipboard on your device, and your device’s share sheet is handled by your device. Sponsor links and links in our guides take you to sites we don’t control.
Children
Athiwalls is for a general audience and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children, and with no accounts or forms we hold nothing that says who anyone is.
Your choices and rights
Because we never ask who you are, very little of what we handle can be tied to you. You can:
- remove your likes and visitor id with the panel under “The visitor id and the counter” above;
- clear this site’s data in your browser settings;
- turn personalised ads off with the links under “Advertising and Google AdSense”;
- write to us at hello@athiwalls.com to ask what we hold, or to have it corrected or deleted. Include your visitor id if your request is about likes.
Depending on where you live, including the EEA and the UK under the GDPR, California under the CCPA and India under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, you may have legal rights to access, correct and delete personal data and to object to how it’s used. We answer every request within 30 days, and you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If we start handling a new kind of information, such as a different analytics service, we’ll describe it here before it goes live. The terms of use cover the rest of how the site works.
